My Digital Portfolio

My portfolio showcases various projects I have created with a written summary along side each piece of work describing the reasons why I have created it and the development process I have gone through.

anti-bullying instagram campaign

This was my attempt to raise awareness for anti-bullying on a popular social media platform used frequently by a younger demographic. Rather than producing stereotypical , cliche images using black and white photography for example , I wanted to produce something that was different and something that a younger generation would be more drawn towards. Using high concept graphic design work and applying this to an anti-bullying campaign helped me to understand and engage with a youth based audience through the analysis of data and analytics that Instagram provided me with. The initial development of this project began through carrying out extensive primary and secondary research into anti-bullying as an issue and the reasons why people bully, right from low self esteem to perhaps issues during childhood. Furthermore , looking at pre-existing designs in order to understand what engages the target audience. Additionally looking into other anti-bullying campaigns who where competitors but also inspiring. This allowed me to gain knowledge on social media as a form of advertisement and combine this with primary knowledge I found out myself and subsequently applying this to my final designs. I am determined to build and develop my skills further in order to pursue a career in Fashion Promotion.

Careers in fashion : factual programme

Here is a short, factual programme I produced solely based on careers in the fashion industry and understanding what it is like being a small, stand alone business competing with others that are larger. I wanted to explore and develop a wider understanding of fashion, first by researching styles of documentary and the evolving ways in which an audience will want to view information, such as streaming. I conducted a wide variety of secondary research into the Fashion Industry itself , gathering facts and statistics on things such as employment within the industry and how fast fashion has affected the biannual seasonality structuring cat walk fashion. Furthermore , researching the influence that social media has had on fashion in recent years, and how it promotes fashion. I presented it on ‘IGTV’ a relatively new addition to instagram that allows people to watch videos that are longer. I was interested in understanding how a brand can launch, and how items are sold and merchandised from different levels within the industry. The competitiveness and originality is important, and this is how I approached my work. The project helped in increasing my understanding of the fashion industry and what it is like working within it.

Advertisement and promotion : infographic

I began to think about and research any issues within the fashion industry that people needed to be made more aware of through the use of advertisement and promotion. A very obvious issue within the fashion industry is the environmental impacts through the production of fast fashion. This consolidated that I was going to produce promotional material based on recyclable and sustainable fashion. Within the process I made the decision of creating content for an already existing brand called reGAIN who promote recyclable fashion through exchanging unwanted clothes for discount off online retailers, who have in turn produced clothing lines made of only recycled materials. It was clear that they were an approachable brand aimed at a younger demographic, therefor producing content that was suited to a younger audience was essential. A vast amount of secondary research was based on instagram , its demographics and the key ways to engage an audience as well as the negative effects of fashion. As part of the production and practical skills process, I carried out research into colour theory and infographics as a method of engaging people.

Visual production

This was the first ever piece of work I produced using graphic design with very little knowledge on how to use affinity designer and photoshop as software. I was given the task to create a visual based solution to a current issue that I knew of. I worked in a restaurant part time , and was aware of the fact they did not have a cocktail menu on offer to customers , therefor I concluded that I wanted to produce a menu that they could use. First and foremost , I began too look at other existing menu’s in the restaurant industry similar to the style of the one I was employed at. Carrying out research into typography , colour schemes and image in order to achieve impact , reflect the restaurants style and personality and primarily solve the issue. I produced this piece of work using affinity designer and from this point I have grown and developed my skills further and will continue to do so.
